Coimbatore Race Course Model Road: Intensive work to set up open air stadium and roadside snack shops

Coimbatore: In the Model Roadworks in Racecourse intensive work is being done to set up open air stadium and roadside snack shops.

Minister SP Velumani inaugurated the Rs 40.70 crore model road on behalf of the corporation, which plans to build Racecourse Road as a model road as part of the Coimbatore Smart City project.

District Administration officials said, "Racecourse model road works are progressing very fast. In this project, the roads in the area are to be made with uniform curves and width. All existing junctions are to be redesigned and widened. In particular, an open-air stadium will be set up near the Government Arts College for the entertainment of the people. The sidewalk is being paved for pedestrians."

He added that, "Space is allotted for setting up more than 30 shops in an area. These shops are set up on the outside of the road, on a 4m wide walkway. Similarly, special parking spaces will be set up and the path is designed on both sides of the road so that people can walk easily. Rainwater drains are to be constructed to prevent water stagnation during the monsoons. Also, separate gyms for men and women in two open spaces will be designed on a synthetic floor. For children's entertainment, a beautiful children's park with synthetic floor is also being set up with play equipment."

He further added, "Purified drinking water, toilets, safety rooms and umbrellas are being set up. Free telecommunications for the convenience of the people, surveillance cameras at various places for security purposes and roadside snack shops etc. are also to be set up. Power and telecommunication facilities are designed to go underground so that electricity is available uninterrupted during storms. It is planned to set up colorful electric lights throughout the area at night. After all the work is done the Race Course area will become much more beautiful".
