Student trapped in tractor wheel dies near Mettupalayam



Coimbatore:In a tragic incident a student trapped in a tractor wheel died in front of his father's eyes. Samayapuram is on the way to the Mettupalayam Vanabadrakaliamman Temple in Coimbatore.

Ilango (age 38) from the Kooduthurai Hills works as a daily wage labourer and his son Vijay (10) was a 4th standard student of Adi Dravidar Welfare School, Wells Puram. Since the school was closed due to threat of COVID-19, Vijay used to sit in the back of a tractor. This morning, Lokesh Kumar drove a tractor to a private farm in Malainelli, Kooduthurai.

Vijay and his father Elango went in the tractor. Student Vijay was dropped off while his father was plowing in the garden. The student was sitting on the sidewalk there. After a while when student Vijay tried to climb on the tractor he slipped off the tractor and got stuck in a rotary machine near the tractor. The injured student fell to the ground. Then the rear wheel of the tractor ran over him causing student Vijay todie on the spot. His father Ilango cried when he saw his son die before his eyes.

Upon receiving information about the accident, Mettupalayam police arrived at the spot and recovered the student's body and sent it to Mettupalayam Government Hospital for autopsy. Police have registered a case and are investigating the accident. The incident in which a student was killed after being trapped in a tractor this morning has caused great tragedy in the area.
