Coimbatore: All Democratic organizations to protest on December 6 urging to erect statue of Dr. Ambedkar in the heart of Coimbatore city. A resolution was passed at the Coimbatore Municipal Council meeting in 2007 to erect a statue of Ambedkar near the Coimbatore Combined Court.
The Ambedkar statue has not been erected for 13 years since. A consultative meeting of all democratic movements was held this evening at the Periyar Padippakam in Gandhipuram, Coimbatore to implement the resolution to erect a statue of Dr. Ambedkar. MP PR Natarajan led the meeting which was attended by more than 20 organizations including the CPM, the Viduthalai Siruthaigal, the TPDK, the Dravida Tamilar Katchi, the Adi Tamilar Peravai, the TVK, Makkal Athihgaram.
In the meeting a resolution was passed urging the corporation to erect a statue of Dr. Ambedkar. It was decided to hold a protest in December in Sivananda Colony on behalf of all democratic organizations, demanding the installation of Dr. Ambedkar statue in the Collector's Office, Court and Nanjappa Road. It was also decided at the consultation meeting to meet the District Collector on December 7 and file a petition.
