Railway officials have assured MP PR Natarajan that subway will set up in Peelamedu Thaneerpandal area
Coimbatore: Railway officials have assured MP PR Natarajan that the subway will set up in Peelamedu Thaneerpandal area as per the long standing demand of the people.
Construction of a bridge for vehicles in the Thaneerpandal area has been going on for the last two years. As a result, the road was blocked and traffic has to go through Coimbatore Medical College for about two kilometers which affects the students and those who go to work daily.
Similarly, a bridge was built in the Peelamedu area to connect the water tank and Peelamedu and it was recently opened for public use. However, people living in the areas adjacent to the bridge also found it difficult to cross the railway line. Following this, the people of the area had requested MP PR Natarajan to construct a tunnel along the railway line in Thanneerpandal and Peelamedu areas.
As per demands of the people MP PR Natarajan continued to urge the railway authorities. He also attended a Southern Railway consultation meeting in Salem four days ago and stressed the need for the project. Railway officials said todaythat they were coming to inspect the two places. Railway officials including Highways Divisional Engineer Somasundaram, Railway Divisional Engineer Thirumal and Railway Divisional Construction Engineer Rajagopal led by Coimbatore MP PR Natarajan inspected the area.
Following this, officials told MP PR Natarajan that tunnels would be set up at Thanneerpandal and Peelamedu. They promised that it would be a pedestrian-only tunnel or a tunnel that can be used by small vehicles. Railway Advisory Committee member UK Sivagnanam and members of the public were also present.
