Earlier, the Civic body in a press release warned that it would strictly view violation of COVID-19 safety guidelines and levy fine on individuals/ establishments for flouting norms like venturing outside without mask,not adhering social distancing norms and spitting in public.
It said a fine of Rs. 200 would be levied for not wearing mask, Rs 500 for not violating social distancing and Rs 500 for spitting in public.
Thus far, the City Corporation has collected a whopping Rs. 80 lakhs as fine from such violators. Among the fines levied, the highest of Rs. 5000 has been imposed on an establishment, as per the ordinance passed by the State government on September 4, an official said.
The team of Corporation staff including Zonal officials led by City Health Officer Raja, Zonal officers have collected a total of Rs 80 as fine amount, till date from Covid violators.
“The intention behind imposing fines is to ensure thatvpeople/shop keepers/establishments follow Covid-19 guidelines. However, there are people and establishments who pay no heed to the norms, thus jeopardising the efforts of the government to control the outbreak", told Raja, City Health Officer.
Citing the second wave of Covid outbreak in Delhi and other places, the Corporation plans to hold meetings with the shopkeepers and establishment owners and sensitize them on strictly following Covid norms.
