Banned street vendors seek identity cards in the Street Vendor program
Coimbatore: Ban on street shop vendors in the Street Vendor program. In Tamil Nadu, a separate policy for street vendors was developed and their count was surveyed in corporations, municipalities, and other areas.
Last year, 16 lakh 431 pedestrian traders were seen trading in push carts in public places. So far 80 thousand 667 people have been issued identity cards and space has been allotted for them to run shops. Others were not provided id cards.
The Local Government, Police, Highways, Public Works Department has banned 69 thousand 236 unlicensed traders from doing business without identity cards. Permission has been granted to take action against shopkeepers who violate the ban. A few traders were not added under the street vendor scheme purposely and appealed for identity to run the shops.
