Brothers drown after trying to pick lotus flowers from Kolarampathy lake in Coimbatore

Coimbatore: The incident where the brothers drowned while trying to pluck the lotus flowers in a pond near Coimbatore has caused great grief in the area.

Annadurai's sons Anandan (25), Hari (20) and their friend Madan (23) from Velandipalayam, Kovilmedu, Tilak Road near Coimbatore also work in a lathe work shop.

Yesterday, these 3 young men went to the the Kolarampathy lake on the Perur Veerakeralam road. After seeing the lotus flowers in the lake, Anandan and Hari went down to the pond to pick it.

While doing so, they went to the deeper part of the lake and drowned. When their friend saw the two brothers drowning and fighting for their lives, he informed the fishermen on the shore.

Following this, they and the general public tried to rescue the brothers who had drowned in the pool by rope. Hari was rescued and brought ashore. But by then, Hari was dead. A long search did not yield results.

Later, the Kavundampalayam fire brigade rushed to the spot and searched for the other brother. His body was trapped under a muddy area of the pool. The fire brigade recovered Anandan's body after searching for an hour.

Following this, the bodies of the brothers were sent to Coimbatore Government Hospital for autopsy. Meanwhile, Vadavalli police are investigating the incident. The death of the brothers drowning in the pool has caused grief in the area.
