The Nilgiris: Elephants damage Chow-chow plantations in Nilgiris. Farmers were affected when a herd of elephants entered the Periyar Nagar area near Manjur in the Nilgiris district early Sunday morning and attacked the Chow-chow and carrot farms there.


The Nilgiris: Elephants damage Chow-chow plantations in Nilgiris. Farmers were affected when a herd of elephants entered the Periyar Nagar area near Manjur in the Nilgiris district early Sunday morning and attacked the Chow-chow and carrot farms there. On the Manjur-Coimbatore road, there are dense forest including Ketti, Perumpallam and Mulli.



As Tamil Nadu borders Kerala, elephant movement has been on the rise in recent times. Incidents where these elephants are found on the road threatening the public happen often. The elephant herd on Sunday morning, destroyed the Chow-chow and carrot farm in the Periyar Nagar area. Farmers were affected due to this. The people of the area have demanded that the elephant herd be chased into the dense forest before any untoward incidents take place.
