Students finally recover certificates from SSM Educational Trust through the help of All India Student Federation
Coimbatore: Students who had their certificates confiscated at SSM Educational Trust had finally recovered it with the help of All India Student Federation (AISF) said a release from AISC today.
According to a press release issued by the Student Council, “The Coimbatore SSM Education Trust is a fraudulent group that targets students, deceives them into enrolling them in engineering colleges and thereby earning commissions from the college.
We filed a petition on 05.11.2020 with the District Collector and on 07.11.2020 we filed a complaint at the Sulur Police Station on behalf of the All India Student Federation(AISF) seeking to obtain the certificates of 3 students from Sulur Kannampalayam and to register a criminal case against the trustees and conduct an inquiry.
Also, a petition was filed with the District Collector last week on behalf of SFI seeking the certificate and Rs.5000 of a student from Annur Kovilpalaiyam. The Trust, which claims to have an office in Gandhipuram, Singanallur, has no such office. Therefore, the situation demanded only the cyber crime department to find them using their cell phone numbers.
Until the afternoon of 27.11.2020, the District Collector, DRO, Police, Tasildar and many others did not help much. We welcome what the District Superintendent of Police said on 27.11.2020, "Call me if you cannot get the certificates in 48 hours." However, we decided to look for them too.
On the afternoon of the 27th, Prabhu, the administrator of the SSM Education Trust, was caught red-handed by SFI comrades who went to inquire with the Suguna College principal about the trustees. After a heated argument, the certificates and money of the student from Anuradhapura were obtained immediately.
Prabhu took Kannampalayam students to Aditya College to get their certificates. Later, he stopped the vehicle at the Kovilpalayam police station without going to the college. When he went inside he changed the plate and said that the AISF and SFI had threatened him to the police. He said, "I am a college professor and I have been helping students to join colleges.
Then, we also gave copies of our petition copies and told them what happened. The intelligence officer there also spoke well. We were adamant that students' certificates should be issued immediately today. Prabhu said, the certificates are at Suguna College and that he will get it once we reach there.
In the pouring rain, we rushed to Suguna College. When we reached there they asked us to come tomorrow. It was at that time that Prabhu's assistant handed over the certificates to the college administration. As soon as the issue arose, we learned that Prabhu had blamed Suguna College.
For students from an oppressed community whose family has never been to college, we gave certificates as a way out. Currently, there are 2 students who are unable to study by joining a private college.
Many more students will suffer if the police do not investigate the SSM Education Trustees, register a criminal case and take drastic action. Forced enrollment of students in engineering colleges for commission should be prevented. If no action is taken against them, AISF and SFI will soon launch serious moral struggles.”
The protest lasted for about 20 days and was led by AISF state president Gunasekar and SFI district secretary Dinesh Raja. The victory was a victory for the unity of left-wing student organizations, they said in a statement.
