Coimbatore: More than five ponds in Coimbatore city including Periyakulam and Valankulam are being rejuvenated at an estimated cost of Rs. 320 crore, under the Smart City project.
Coimbatore: More than five ponds in Coimbatore city including Periyakulam and Valankulam are being rejuvenated at an estimated cost of Rs. 320 crore, under the Smart City project.

Presently, the bunds of these water bodies are being strengthened to set up parks, walking tracks, benches, and floating platforms, as part of the beautification work. Accordingly, the City Corporation has commenced the work of removing water hyacinths from Valankulam.
The water hyacinths have formed a large canopy over the water body and majorly hindering the dredging works. The City Corporation is using aquatic weed cutter and shredder machines purchasef from Kerala to remove the weeds from the water bodies across the city.
Soon, the machine will be used in other lakes to remove weeds, an official told.
