Coimbatore: Upon the directives of Director of Family Welfare, Chennai, the Coimbatore Medical College Hospital and Government Hospital Pollachi jointly have organised a week-long camp for male sterilisation.
Gowri, Deputy Director in charge of Rural Welfare and Family Welfare, Coimbatore in a press statement said that the camp is being conducted for free and added that the procedure for sterilising males are less complex compared to female sterilisation procedure.
Sterilisation for men is a less invasive surgical procedure than female sterilisation, as it does not require access to the abdomen.
The statement informed that the procedure for men would only take five minutes, less-invasive and safer. Several misconceptions around male sterilisation leave men sceptical of volunteering for the procedure.
Often, men fear to undergo sterilisation due to myths that it would affect their sexual desire, sex drive or the ability to have erections and ejaculate, the release reassured that men need not worry, post sterilisation procedure, they can resume back to their lives, as usual.
Those who undergo the procedure would be given Rs.1000 from the state government fund, the release said.
