Coimbatore: Coimbatore City Municipal Corporation (CCMC) Deputy Commissioner, S. Madhuranthagi has warned of stern action against illegal sewage connections made to storm water drains.
Coimbatore: Coimbatore City Municipal Corporation (CCMC) Deputy Commissioner, S. Madhuranthagi has warned of stern action against illegal sewage connections made to storm water drains.
Underground sewerage works are carried out at the left out areas within the Coimbatore Corporation limit. Residents around Ukkadam and the Periyakulam will be provided with a UGD connection under the Smart City project for which the fee will be divided into 10 installments and collected along with the property tax.
While in other places,the deposit and connection fee must be paid, together.However, allegations are rife that houses are provided with illegal sewage connections by some Assistant Engineers who entice the residents for a lesser amount and thereby cause huge revenue loss to the Corporation.
The complaint came to light by higher authorities and discussions were held at the recent consultative meeting chaired by Deputy Commissioner Madhuranthagi. City Engineer Lakshmanan, headed the meeting and proposed to maintain a record of sewer connection application.
DC, Madhuranthagi warned that the stern acction would be initiated on the officials and the residents for procuring illegal connections. The said amount to obtain connection must be paid legally and any irregularities will be dealt legally.
Similarly, there are complaints that plumbers are increasingly interfering and mediating in obtaining new drinking water connections. The DC reitrated that auch practices willnot be tolerated and public are requested to abstain from using illegal ways to obtain sewage and water connections.
She added that duly filled application along with the said fee amount should be remitted to obtain sewage connections.
