Saree catches fire from mosquito coil; Elderly woman burns to death

Coimbatore: The tragic death of an old woman when her silk saree caught fire from a mosquito coil in Coimbatore has caused great tragedy.

Jagadeesan (64), a weaver from Saibaba Colony, Coimbatore, and his mother Amsha Vani (82) had difficulty breathing.

So while sleeping in the evening on the day of the incident, she was sleeping with a mosquito coil burning nearby. Then, the mosquito coil spark ignited the silk in the blanket that was wrapped around her. Amsaveni did not notice this at first.

At this point, the blanket and saree burned and caught fire on her whole body. Vani was rushed to the Coimbatore Government Hospital for treatment. But she died tragically last night despite treatment. Saibaba Colony police have registered a case and are investigating.
