On the occasion of the 73rd anniversary of the death of Periyar, who fought for the abolition of caste by burning the constitutional provisions protecting caste, an event was held in front of the Periyar statue in the Gandhipuram area of Coimbatore to pay homage to those who fought to eradicate caste.
Periyar activists who attended the event chanted slogans in honor of the anti-caste fighters.
Following that, everyone who spoke at the event said that the constitutional laws that protect caste should be abolished and that the sentiment of the fighters who fought to eradicate caste was admirable. Fighters who fought to eradicate the caste died in prison and the event is being held in their memory.
