Coimbatore: A 3-foot Panchamuga Ganesha idol was placed and worshiped near the Kovilmedu-Jallikattu road junction near Saibaba Colony in Coimbatore. As the statue was placed on the side of the road, traffic was affected.

Some people from the area complained to the Saibaba Colony police about this. Following this, the police went there last evening and conducted an investigation. It was revealed that members of Hindu political groups had placed the idol there without permission. Thus the police tried to remove the statue.
Upon learning of this, Hindu groups gathered there and protested against the removal of the statue, arguing with the police. There was unrest for a few hours. With the negotiation with high ranked police officials, It was then decided to remove the statue.
Subsequently, the idol of Ganesha was removed from there by the groups after performing some Poojai.
