Coimbatore: Officials have informed that there are plans to make chicken waste into food for fish in the aquariums.
Several actions are being taken to for solid waste management in the Coimbatore Corporation. There are over 4500 streets in all the 100 wards in the city. The garbage collected here are segregated as degradable and non-degradable waste and then sent to the Vellalore dumpyard.
To reduce the amount of garbage sent to Vellalore, 69 micro composting centers are decided to be set up in various areas. The works are underway to set up 24 micro composting centres. 4 centres are now operational and the officials have now decided to collect the chicken waste from meat shops and process it to make food for fish.
Corporation official said, "Over 100 meat shops are operational in corporation limits. Over 100 kg of chicken wastes are being collected from these shops on operational days. Using technology and hitech machineries it is planned to manufacture food for fish from the chicken waste. This will reduce the meat waste in the city."
