Coimbatore: District Collector Rajamani had ordered to identify and demolish dilapidated buildings in Coimbatore as a precautionary measure against the northeast monsoon.

Following this, dilapidated buildings were identified and notices were issued to some private buildings. Also, some buildings were demolished. As part of this, notices have been issued under Section 327 of the Coimbatore Corporation Act 1981 for buildings in a dangerous condition within the boundaries of the Corporation.

Corporation officials said, notice will be issued by the corporation to vacate the buildings which are in a dangerous condition and those who have not yet vacated will be informed to vacate by the 20th. They said if they failed to do so the buildings will be sealed with the help of the police from the 21st.

As a result, notices were issued recently to evacuate shops in dangerous buildings on Coimbatore Big Bazaar Road. After that, corporation officials yesterday demanded that they be evacuated.

The traders protested and got into an argument with the authorities. Some were also involved in road roko protests. Following this, with the help of the police, their shops were vacated and 19 shops were sealed by the corporation officials. This caused a stir in the area.
