Coimbatore: Periyar Iyakkam protests in Pollachi against Vel Yathra and said 'Periyar Nadu' will not allow BJP's north politics.
Thanthai Periyar's handcane procession and protest in the form of Ambedkar took place in front of the head telephone office on behalf of the Thanthai Periyar Dravidar Kazhaga Koottu Iyakkam in Pollachi demanding a ban on the Vel Yatra being held across Tamil Nadu on behalf of the BJP.

During the protest slogans were raised condemning the Tamil Nadu government for allowing the protest to incite religious violence in Tamil Nadu. They alleged that even after the court banned the Vel Yatra the Tamil Nadu government had given permission to the yatra that could incite sectarian violence.
The BJP has strongly condemned the anarchy of the Thiruvannamalai District Superintendent of Police, who is marching with his hand on his chest, and has chanted slogans that Periyar Nadu will not allow the northern politics of the BJP, which is politicizing in the name of devotion, to disrupt and divide politics.
Further, Thanthai Periyar warned that if the Tamil Nadu government did not ban the Vel Yatra, there would be a handcane procession all over Tamil Nadu.

Later, more than 50 people were arrested for attempting to hold a handcane procession in defiance of the ban.
