Coimbatore: Liquor bottles have been disposed off from the Noyyal river. A dam has been built on the Noyyal river near Pudukad in Coimbatore. People who come to the barracks to drink leave behind the bottles there. This causes harm to wildlife and hence on behalf of the Kovai Kulangal Pathukappu Amaippu the work of removing the liquor bottles found in the Noyyal river in the Pudukkad area was carried out yesterday. A large number of activists attended and removed broken alcohol bottles, plastic covers and other garbage.
Kulangal Paathukaapu Amaippu Manikandan said that they select a water body each week to remove the garbage. This week liquor bottles were removed from the Noyyal River in the 178th Ward. He said people who come here and drink alcohol break bottles and leave them behind. This injures the feet of wildlife causing harm to them. He then urged that strict action should be taken against those who sit near water bodies and consume alcohol.
