More MIS-C virus cases reported in Coimbatore

Coimbatore: Over the past few months, the Child Protection Agency has advised the Department of Health that a new virus called MIS-C is infecting children who have recovered from coronavirus infection and children who were in contact with adults who had contracted COVID-19.



Coimbatore: Over the past few months, the Child Protection Agency has advised the Department of Health that a new virus called MIS-C is infecting children who have recovered from coronavirus infection and children who were in contact with adults who had contracted COVID-19. In a study it has been found that children in Coimbatore, Tirupur and Erode districts were also infected with the MIS-C virus. They were admitted to Coimbatore Government Hospital and ESI Hospital for treatment. Of these, 17 children have been infected with the MIS-C virus at the Coimbatore Government Hospital since last month and have been admitted for treatment.

A one year old boy from Tirupur died tragically and 14 children have fully recovered and returned home. Pediatrics Departed Head Dr. Booma said, "So far 17 children have been admitted to the Coimbatore Government Hospital for the MIS-C virus. 14 of them have fully recovered and returned home. It costs between Rs 2 lakh and Rs 3 lakh to treat children with MIS-C disease. Sometimes it costs more than Rs 3 lakh for children above 10 years."

She added that, "Up to Rs 25 lakh has been spent on children infected with the MIS-C virus. Currently 2 boys are receiving treatment. They are also recovering and will be back home soon."
