Tirupur: The Periyar stick procession was held on behalf of the Tirupur Periyar Awareness Federation today, condemning the BJP's Vel Yatra across Tamil Nadu and condemning the daily public meetings of the Vel Yatra in violation of the ban.

In a procession that started in front of the Tirupur District Collector's Office, the Periyarist Coalition demanded that the Vel Yatrai be banned. More than 70 people, including women belonging to the Periyarist Coalition, were arrested as they tried to march through the barrier despite being denied police permission.
As a result, there was a tug-of-war between the police and the Periyarists.
