Coimbatore: Special buses were launched in the Coimbatore division ahead of the Deepavali festival.
Deepavali was celebrated across the country on the 14th November. To support the crowd going to their hometowns, 450 special buses were operated from the 12th to the 19th of this month in the Coimbatore division covering the districts of Coimbatore, Tirupur, Nilgiris and Erode.
A total of 27.11 lakh passengers traveled in special festive buses in 8 days of operation of special buses. As a result, the TN State Transport Corporation alone has earned Rs 16.5 crore, officials said.
Deepavali was celebrated on October 27 last year. Special buses were run from October 25 to November 1. From this ₹31.38 crore revenue was generated. At that time, 1.60 crore people traveled in buses. The number of outbound travelers was low due to the pandemic this year. Thus, special buses were also operated in less numbers.
As a result, the TN State Transport Corporation has received less revenue this year than last year, officials said.
