On the day of the incident, Prabhakaran's two-pound gold chain in the room suddenly went missing. Shocked, he searched the room, but could not find it. Subsequently, he lodged a complaint with the Peelamedu police. The police registered a case and started the investigation.
The investigation revealed that Periyasamy (21) (his friend) from Namakkal, who was staying in Prabhakaran's room, did not come to the room since the day the chain went missing. The police were searching for him, and located him in the Kalapatti area.
At the time, he admitted to stealing Prabhakaran's jewelery. Following this, the police arrested Periyasamy under Section 379 and remanded him in custody.
