Review meeting to tackle effects of north-east monsoons held in Corporation Central Zone
Coimbatore: A review meeting with all departmental officers on how to deal with the northeast monsoon and how to deal with the dangers posed by rains in the Coimbatore Corporation of Coimbatore was held today 21.11.2020 at the Central Zone Office of the Coimbatore Corporation under the chairmanship of Commissioner and Special Officer P. Kumaravel Pandian.
He said vehicles should be kept ready during the monsoon season to discharge water by means of a water pump to places where there is stagnant water and on the roadside and JCB must be kept ready to clear when trees fall due to wind and rain during monsoon. Vaccines and medical camps should be kept ready to prevent the spread of rain-borne infections. Bundles of sand required to repair breaks in water levels should be kept ready. Schools should be kept ready so that the people affected by the monsoon can stay. He also said that the food required for those who stay must be arranged.
He also said necessary measures should be taken to immediately remove fallen poles, cables. Steps must be taken to close the open rainwater canals along the roadsides if anything is open. He asked "to ensure that the pits are securely closed and drains must be maintained and garbage must not be dumped in rainwater drainage canals. People need to evacuate dilapidated buildings and all departmental officers should monitor the work 24 hours a day during the monsoon season and take appropriate action."
City Engineer A. Lakshmanan, Engineer Smart City Saravanakumar, District Welfare Officer Dr. Raja, Engineer Gnanavelu, All Zonal Assistant Commissioners, Assistant Engineers, Health Inspectors (Swachh Bharat Project) and all Zonal Health Officers were present during the meeting.
