TPDK cadres besiege Police Commissioner's office against BJP's Vel Yatra
Coimbatore: Thanthai Periyar Dravida Kazhagam (TPDK) besieged the Tirupur Police Commissioner's office on Saturday against BJP's Vel Yatra.
Various political parties and organizations have been protesting against Tamil Nadu BJP's Vel Yathra led by its State President, L Murugan. Alleging that the event is against defiance of the High Court order,protests was held in Coimbatore on behalf of TPDK and allied organizations condemning the State government and the police for allowing the Vel Yathra.
Accordingly, more than 100 people from 18 organizations, including TPDK Viduthalai Siruthaigal and the Adi Tamilar Peravai, took part in the protest held in Tirupur. The protestors gathered at the District Superintendent's Office and werestopped by the police. After which they staged a sit-in-protest raising slogans denouncingthe police for allowing the protest.
Speaking about this, TPDK General Secretary K Ramakrishnan alleged thatthe Vel Yathra was not spiritual but a political strategy. He said the BJP State President has been defaming all political parties in every public meeting amd accused that the police are staging a drama by arresting them. He also said that BJP have been mobilizing more than a thousand people to hold public meetings despite the virus outbreak.
He said the Vel Yathrai was to cover up the misery of the people in Tamil Nadu and the nation due to the BJP government's failed economic policies, such as unemployment and rising prices. He said they are conducting this to cover up the laws brought against the farmers and trade unions and to cover up the actions of the BJP which has snatched away the right to education and also to cover up the imposition of Hindi in Tamil Nadu.
He further alleged that police have allowed public meetings in Coimbatore tomorrow and they condemned this and were involved in a protest to besiege the office of the Police Commissioner.
