As many as 2,500 and over 25,000 government and private hospitals in the state were asked to prepare data on health care workers for the Covid-19 vaccine, after the cognisance of state government.Sources in the health department say the city had already prepared the data of health care workers consisting of contract labourers and other staff.
Responding to this claim by one of the officials in the health department, CMCH dean Kalidas accepted that data had been prepared long ago and sent to the Joint director of health. “After when the government asked us to do so, we collected the database of it. In it, a total of 2,500 plus health care experts would be given the Covid19 vaccine at first in the city”.
However, it is unclear as to how much data have been collected in the private hospitals here. The second dose of Covidshield, a vaccine invented by oxford university, will be carried out on these healthcare workers soon. Earlier, 75 volunteers have been given this vaccine in the state. So far, the trial is being conducted on Rajiv Gandhi Government Hospital and another tuberculosis institution in the state. Trial is carried out by ICMR and National institute of Research in tuberculosis at two institutions.
Nearly 2,000 healthcare workers and staff are to be in the trial for this vaccine in Salem district, said Balajinathan, dean of Government Super Speciality Hospital, Salem. The vaccine trialis likely to be in the cities in December.
