More than 500 families are living in Soladamattam area under Vandicholai panchayat of Nilgiris district. Mostly tea and vegetable estate workers live here.
Selvam, a plantation worker who lives here, was coming through his farm when the beehive collapsed and the bees in it attacked Selvam. The bees also attacked the other workers who went there on hearing his screams.
Since the path was narrow for an ambulance, the workers carried Selvam until the road.
He was later rushed by ambulance to the intensive care unit at Coonoor Government Lali Hospital. Forest officers who arrived at the scene are investigating.
