Corporation officials said that up to 80 percent of the work has been completed.
Various projects worth Rs. 1500 crore are being announced and implemented in Coimbatore under the Smart City scheme. In particular, the 24-hour drinking water supply scheme, LED, Electric Lighting, Multi Level Car Parking, Ukkadam Lorrypettai Relocation, Vellalore Integrated Bus Stand, VOC park Expansion, beautification and improvement of ponds under the control of the corporation were announced.
Large sum of money is being spent in the Smart City fund only for beautification and renovation of the pools. Valankulam is being rehabilitated at a cost of Rs 48 crore under the Smart City project. The district administration official said, “In the Valankulam area on the road from Coimbatore Trichy road to the Sungam bypass, work on a 'playing zone' for children, a cycling and skating rink, a walking platform and a floating bridge over the water have been completed.”
He said work is underway to set up restaurants under the Valankulam banks under the Sungam Bypass Bridge. Work is also underway to remove the water hyacinths in the Valankulam pond. The Smart City works in Valankulam are about 80 per cent complete.
