Coimbatore: Yesterday aMedical college student studying in Karpagam Medical College committed suicide in his hostel near Othakalmandapam. Naveen Kumar (22) is the son of Ramajayam from Thiruvannamalai district. He was a final year student at the Karpagam Medical College, which operates in the Premier Mills area near the Othakalmandapam.
Naveen Kumar was attending his classes online due to COVID-19 lockdown. He came to the college along with his mother 5 days back to write the arrear exam for his second year. It is alleged that student Naveen Kumar has been receiving treatment for depression for the past few days. So his mother stayed with him for 3 days.
Naveenkumar's mother left for her hometown yesterday morning and called him on his phone in the evening. As he did not pick the call, the parents who got suspicious immediately informed the college PT teacher. When he went to check it was revealed that Naveen Kumar had committed suicide by hanging himself in his room. The college administration immediately informed the Chettipalayam police about this. Police recovered Naveen Kumar's body and sent it to Coimbatore Government Hospital for autopsy.
Following this, the police are conducting further investigation into why student Naveen Kumar committed suicide.
