Coimbatore: An elderly woman was trampled to death by an elephant near Coimbatore. Maruthammal (age 70) is from Sarkarporathi Tribal Village, Mullankadu in Boluvampatti Forest Reserve, next to Coimbatore.
Coimbatore: An elderly woman was trampled to death by an elephant near Coimbatore. Maruthammal (age 70) is from Sarkarporathi Tribal Village, Mullankadu in Boluvampatti Forest Reserve, next to Coimbatore. She was walking towards the east from her home yesterday near Siruvani Main Road. All of a sudden a elephant came there. Maruthammal was shocked to see this and she tried to escape from the wild elephant.
But by then the elephant chased and grabbed her by the trunk and threw her down and trampled. She was injured and died at the scene. Upon information Forest Officer Arokiyasamy, Forest officer Ranjith, Forest Ranger Marimuthu and Tilaksaran rushed to the spot. They seized the body of the deceased and sent it to Coimbatore Government Hospital for autopsy. The incident in which a wild elephant killed an elderly woman has caused a stir in the tribal village of Sarkarporathi.
