For the annual Hindu festivals, including Ganesha Chaturthi and Karthika Deepam, the workers prepare and sell pottery for local and foreign markets. As this year's Karthika Deepam is to be celebrated on the 29th, workers are engaged in making Agalvilakku (small mud lamps) for the Karthikai Deepam in the Pollachi area.
Pollachi has been experiencing heavy rains for the past few days, causing problems in drying the clay lamps. Due to the lack of rain for the last two days, the pottery workers are busy drying the lamps.

Lamps made by ceramic workers have also started concentrating for sale in the markets. Depending on the size and shape of the lamp, incandescent lamps range from 5 rupees to 10 rupees. Workers said that the sale of idols during Ganesha Chaturthi was affected due to corona infection and now the Karthika Deepam festival has given a helping hand to regain the lost revenue.
