Coimbatore: The northeast monsoon has been lashing heavily in Coimbatore for the last few days. Thus, the corporation officials are conducting house-to-house inspections to prevent the breeding of dengue mosquitos in the city.
Due to the ongoing northeast monsoon, roads, sewers and low-lying areas in Coimbatore are likely to be waterlogged. In addition, dengue control measures are being taken on behalf of the corporation as a precautionary measure as there is a possibility of dengue mosquito breeding in unsealed drums and tanks stored for drinking water in homes.
As part of this, regional level officials, along with health department officials, are monitoring the stagnant water. Disinfectants are being sprayed to control the breeding of mosquitos. More than 2,000 corporation employees are involved in dengue mosquito eradication work alone.
An official of the corporation said, "We are conducting house-to-house inspections to prevent the breeding of dengue mosquitos. Disinfectant is sprayed by inspecting water drums, water tanks, etc. used at home. Since the cooperation of the people is required to eradicate the dengue mosquito worms, we have advised to keep the water tanks and drums covered so that they are not exposed to sunlight. When it comes to inspection, fines will be levied if there are mosquito worms in the water tanks.”
