Murugesan, 40, is from Terankinaru, near the Bethikuttai forest near Sirumugai in Coimbatore district. He has been cultivating bananas on his one acre land in the area. The night before yesterday, a 30 - year - old male elephant entered the farm and ate the bananas.

The wild elephant tried to leave the farm yesterday morning and unexpectedly got stuck in the fence and got electrocuted.
Upon information, the forest officials led by Senthilkumar, Sirumugai forest officer, rushed to the spot with the veterinarians and examined the body of the elephant, conducted an autopsy and buried it there. The forest department investigated the matter and found teh farm owner Murugesan had placed a fence to prevent wildlife from entering his farm.
It was found that he had stealthily connected the electricity supplied to his house through a tool. Following this, the forest department interrogated Murugesan. He then confessed to erecting a fence to prevent wildlife from entering and stealthily connecting electricity into it. The forest department then arrested him.
