Coimbatore: Coimbatore Corporation Commissioner Kumaravel Pandian, has ordered that the dilapidated buildings must be evacuated by tomorrow as there is a high risk of them falling apart.
Coimbatore: Coimbatore Corporation Commissioner Kumaravel Pandian, has ordered that the dilapidated buildings must be evacuated by tomorrow as there is a high risk of them falling apart.

Corporation Commissioner said, due to northeast monsoon it has been raining for the last few days in the area under Coimbatore Corporation. As the rain may continue for another day or two the places are being dug up and maintained to remove rainwater immediately at the places where there is waterlogging on the road. Rainwater runoff from time to time at Railway subway, Lanka Corner, Avinashi Road bridge and Kikani overbridge.

He said roads damaged due to heavy rains have been identified and are being repaired. Steps are being taken to repair the canal blockages which will be done immediately by the corporation and also uprooted trees due to rains were cleared. He added that notice has been issued under Section 327 of the Coimbatore Corporation Act 1981 for buildings in a dilapidated condition within the boundaries of the Corporation. So far 81 buildings have been identified and notices have been issued. Of these, 19 buildings have been demolished.
He said, notices will be issued by the corporation to vacate buildings in dangerous condition and those who have not yet vacated will have to vacate tomorrow. He added that in case it is not followed the buildings will be sealed with the help of the police from the 21st.
