Northeast monsoon has resulted in continuous rains every day across Tamil Nadu. On the other hand, the impact caused by the COVID-19 virus outbreak also continues. This has affected the movement of flights at Coimbatore International Airport. While airlines are showing interest to start new services in different routes, cancellations of flights continue to be a regular scene at the airport too. This has caused a big inconvenience to the passengers.
Sources from the Coimbatore Airport said,"Although the government has given relaxations under the lockdown, the domestic flight and cargo transportation is not back to normal yet. Fear among passengers continues due to which ticket sales get affected, which forces the airlines to cancel their services. Due to this, passengers are made to wait, travel to other airports and then reach their destinations. At Coimbatore Airport, cancellation of flights continues to increase each day. A minimum of one to a maximum of three flights are cancelled each day. Especially more cancellations are witnessed on Tuesdays.
On the other hand, more rain is witnessed due to monsoon. Hence in the upcoming days, more cancellations and diversion of flights may be witnessed. The situation will continue for the next three months. Hence passengers should plan their journey by taking into account all the facts mentioned above. Also they should regularly keep in touch with the airlines and the airport offices."
