In the foothills of the Western Ghats of Coimbatore, including Thadagam, Sirumugai, Narasipuram, Anaikatti and Kanuvai, wild elephants regularly came to residential areas for drinking water. Foresters continue to burst firecrackers and chase them away.

In this situation, an electric fence was erected in the banana orchard owned by Murugesan (40), a resident of Pethikuttai Pudukkadu area next to Mettupalayam, Coimbatore district, for the protection of banana trees.
In this case, a male elephant about 30 years old that was in search of food was caught in the electric fence and lost its life.
The villagers in the area who saw this saw this informed the Sirumugai Forest Department personnel, who rushed to the spot, retrieved the body of the elephant and sent it for an autopsy. Also, the owner of the banana plantation is under investigation.
