Coimbatore: Coimbatore: Heavy rains lashed Coimbatore from yesterday morning. As a result, rainwater accumulated in places including the Avinashi Road flyover, Lanka Corner Bridge and Railway Station Road as a result of which motorists suffered severely. Roads became sludgy in many places due to the rain.

Due to this rain, the temporary flower market at Devangar School Grounds, Banana Mandi and M.G.R. Market areas were inundated with rainwater. The public and merchants suffered a lot due to this. Also, people who used to walk for the purpose of physical exercise in the Race Course area were affected due to stagnant rainwater.
Due to the heavy Northeast monsoon this year, the tanks in Coimbatore including Narasampathy, Krishnampathy, Kurichi Kulam, Valankulam and Muthannankulam are flooded.

A total of 426.9 mm of rainfall was recorded in Coimbatore district, the average of which is 30.49 mm.
