Coimbatore: Pollachi Cattle Market is the largest cattle market in Tamil Nadu.
Currently operating in Thippampatti, the market sells more than 2,000 cows in just two days a week, Tuesday and Thursday. Cattle from various places including Coimbatore, Tirupur, Erode, Ottanchattiram, the neighboring states of Andhra Pradesh and Karnataka are brought here to sale.
As a result, crores of rupees were traded here and thousands of workers were employed. Of this, 90 per cent of the cattle would be transported to Kerala after the sale but due to the pandemic situation, the cattle market has not been functioning properly for the last 8 months due to the curfew.
Moreover, traders and workers who relied on the industry lost their jobs and suffered huge losses as livestock trucks were denied entry into Kerala because of COVID-19.
But today, as many as 1,500 cows were sold at the Thippampatti cattle market as vehicles have been allowed to drive into Kerala since yesterday.

After eight months, the cattle market was buzzing and business was heating up. The merchants and workers rejoiced in the return of the good times.
