Coimbatore: An engineer from the Nilgiris district has been held for interrogation for allegedly depositing fake notes in a private bank in Vadavalli, here.
Coimbatore: An engineer from the Nilgiris district has been held for interrogation for allegedly depositing fake notes in a private bank in Vadavalli, here. Based on the complaint by the bank manager, the police have initiated an investigation and a special team has reportedly left to Ooty for futher investigation, police said on Monday.
The issue came to light after Gokulnath (25) working at ICICI Bank in Vadavalli, Coimbatore lodged a complaint at the Vadavalli police station, on Sunday stating that Hithish Anand, a resident of the Nilgiris district, had deposited Rs. 1 lakh 20 thousand in Rs. 500 notes at his bank. Subsequently, when the money was examined, he stated that 40 of Rs. 500 notes were fake.
Following this, Vadavalli police have held Anand and are investigating. Police sources said a tean has been deputed to Ooty to probe the issur. Anand is further being investigated by the police.
It may be recalled that last year, counterfeit notes were printed and put into circulation in Coimbatore. Following which, the RS Puram Crime Division police arrested the offenders and confiscated 11 lakh 57 thousand worth of counterfeit notes.
