Special sweets alangaram for Diwali at Cheran Managar Meenakshi Sundareswar temple in Coimbatore
Coimbatore: Meenakshi Sundareswar temple at Cheran Managar is well known among local devotees and ones from afar as well. Every year, during Diwali, the head priest of the temple, Sukesh, takes the initiative of making special alangaram to the idols of the gods with sweets. Interested devotees who wish to offer different types of sweets are informed prior.
On the day of diwali, the priest decorates the idols using tonnes of sweets. After the devotees worship in the morning, the sweets used for alangaram are sent to the nearby orphanage and distributed to the children there.
The initiative is evidently well received and appreciated as the contribution of sweets keeps increasing every year.
