Tirupur: Workers at most knitting companies in Tirupur were given this year's Diwali bonuses last week.
Meanwhile, major roads, including Kumaran Road in Tirupur, are facing severe traffic congestion today as people keep flocking the shopping areas in large numbers to buy clothes and accessories after bonuses were given by most domestic knitwear companies today.
Tirupur knitting companies were closed for two full months this year due to the COVID pandemic. This being the case, the companies have been operating since last June, with government-imposed relaxations.
Knitting companies are said to have given lesser bonuses to their workers than last year due to this. Today, after bonuses were given by most of the domestic knitwear manufacturers to their employees, people keep thronging the bazaar areas to buy goods, causing a severe traffic congestion on roads including Kumaran Road, Palladam Road and Mangalam Road.
