Coimbatore: Forest department rescued an injured spotted deer whose antlers were missing in a residential area near Maruthamalai. They provided first aid to the deer and then released it into a dense forest area.

A 4-year-old male spotted deer strayed into a residential area in Kalveerampalayam, Murugan Nagar area adjacent to Marudhamalai forest in Coimbatore.

The frightened spotted deer with broken antlers and head injury hid in an alley between the houses and the dogs began chasing it.
The people in the area who saw the spotted deer informed the forest department. Forest officials who came there rescued the deer, provided first aid and released it into dense forest.
According to forest officials, the deer species has a tendency to break its horns naturally for growth of antlers for the second time. They said this may be the cause for the broken horn. They also added it regrows naturally and heals by itself. The forest department said that the deer is healthy now.
