Coimbatore: "Modi's Daughter" project was started by the Prime Minister of India for girls who have lost their fathers and are under the care of their mothers.

The first phase of the project has been launched in Coimbatore as the project is being rolled out across India.

BJP National Women's Wing leader Vanathi Srinivasan, who attended the function on behalf of the Makkal Sevai Maiam at a private hall in Gandhipuram, provided welfare assistance to 100 girls who have lost their fathers and are under the care of their mothers.

She said the girls enrolled under the scheme would get the necessary assistance for education for five years. She also said that girls who have lost their fathers and want to join the scheme can contact the Makkal Sevai Maiam. She also presented a photo of Prime Minister Modi to all the children. He later told reporters that Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi is deeply concerned that any project he announces should benefit women and that Tamil Nadu was the first state in India to have the Selvamagal Thittam announced by the Prime Minister. Under the "Modi's Daughter" scheme, girls whose fathers have died will get scholarships for up to 5 years and girls who study well will get the required scholarships even after 5 years.

He said that the book written by Arundhati Roy was expelled from Manonmaniam University just not because of ABVP's request, but various organizations did the same. She said Vetrivel Yatra will be conducted with appropriate restrictions and it has been planned in order to take the welfare schemes of the Central Government to the people. She accused that the government should have cooperated to proceed with it smoothly but has instead arrested the party volunteers.

She said the yatra would have ended well if the police had come up with a proper plan and also accused that they made this yatra look like something against the law. She also said they are ready to face any case if someone challenges this.
