New flower market premises in Poomarket Coimbatore is 99% complete - Corporation Commissioner
Coimbatore: Corporation Commissioner said the new flower market premises will be inaugurated soon in Poo market area. Construction work on the new premises of the Flower Market in the RS Puram area of Coimbatore is 99 per cent complete.
There were more than 95 shops operating at the Corporation Flower Market in Coimbatore, RS Puram. More than 20 tons of flowers are brought here daily for sale from various places including Bangalore, Dindigul, Sathyamangalam, Sirumugai, Nilgiris and Pollachi. From here flowers are sent to various parts of Tamil Nadu. The flower market was closed by corporation officials due to coronavirus spread prevention measures.
Florists were then allowed to operate temporarily on the Devanga school grounds. Work was underway to set up 95 shops at the flower shop premises being constructed at a cost of Rs. 70 lakhs on behalf of the corporation in the Poomarket area.
Kumaravel Pandian, Corporation commissioner said, "The flower market complex is 99 per cent complete.Action is being taken against to allot shops to florists and they will be soon opened for use."
