Coimbatore: 4 tonnes of ration rice smuggled to Kerala seized
Following a tip-off that ration rice was being smuggled from Vettaikaranpudur near Pollachi via Coimbatore Anaimalai, a flying squad led by a Tahsildar conducted a vehicle inspection.
At the time, they stopped and inspected a four-wheeler speeding from Vettaikaranpudur towards Anaimalai and found it was carrying bundles of rice that weighed 4 tonnes in total.
An investigation revealed that the ration rice was to be taken to Kerala. Following this, the four wheeler involved in the rice smuggling and its driver Karuppusamy were handed over to the Pollachi Police.
