Vimala (age 30), wife of Kuppusamy who hails from Periyakamalapatti near Sulur in Coimbatore, used to work as an employee in a rice shop in the area. She has been suffering from stomach ache for the last few days. As a result, she was found to be very depressed and on the 6th of this month and poured kerosene all over her body and set herself on fire.
She was rescued by her neighbors and admitted to the Coimbatore Government Hospital, but died tragically last night without responding to treatment. Police have registered a case and are investigating.
Similarly, Ettappan's wife Ponnammal (75) from Urulikkal estate near Valparai was suffering from poor health for a long time. A frustrated Ponnammal poured kerosene all over her body the day before yesterday and set it on fire. She was rescued by her neighbors and admitted to the Coimbatore GH. Not responding to treatment, she died last night.
Valparai Sekkalmudi police have registered a case under Section 174 and are conducting an investigation.
