Coimbatore: Parents asked not to reopen schools due to COVID-19 threat at the consultative meetings on reopening schools held in Pollachi.
The Tamil Nadu government has announced that schools will be reopened and lessons will be conducted for students of standards 9, 10, 11 and 12 from the 16th in Tamil Nadu.
Due to the threat of the coronavirus, this decision of the government caused great resentment among parents, academicians and political parties. Hence the government directed the schools to seek views of parents on whether or not to open government and private schools across the state.

As part of this, parents at more than 70 government and private schools in Pollachi went to school early this morning and expressed their views to teachers.

They completed and submitted the survey forms provided at the school. Some parents cited the fact that there is a threat of coronavirus, which is likely to increase the risk of re-infection if children are sent to school, and that teachers and parents have been affected by the virus since schools reopened in Andhra Pradesh.
Also, there is a situation where rural students might suffer due to lack of adequate bus facilities. Most parents commented that schools should not be open at present and that online classes could be held because of the risk of infection.
