Coimbatore: Arrangements are being made to reopen theatres from tomorrow after a gap of 8 months due to the COVID lockdown. Films of leading actors are to be screened.
Theatres in Tamil Nadu have been closed for 8 months since March due to the spread of coronavirus. The government has given a go ahead to open theatres with various restrictions. Based on this, more than 100 theaters in Coimbatore, Erode and Tirupur districts will be opened tomorrow.
More than 80 theaters will be opened in Coimbatore district alone.
As a precautionary measure, the theaters are being cleaned and disinfected. Arrangements have been made for fans to wear face masks, wash their hands with disinfectants, and sit at intervals and watch movies.
Only 50 percent of the seats would be operational.
With no new films being released in theatres for the Diwali festival, owners are planning to re-screen the movies of leading Tamil actors such as Ajith, Vijay and Surya and also English films. The proprietor of Baba Cinemas (Archana Darchana Theatres) in Coimbatore thanked the Tamil Nadu government for allowing the theatres to reopen after a long gap of eight months due to the Coronavirus. He also requested that the government should take action to allow release of new films this Diwali.
