Tamilan TV Reporter hacked to death - Coimbatore Press Club calls the killing a murder of democracy
Coimbatore: A young reporter of Tamilan TV was hacked to death by mysterious persons near his house at Pudhu Nellur in Chennai's outskirts, allegedly over his exposure and questioning of illegal sale of ganja and poramboke land in his area.
The victim G. Moses (26) was said to have received death threats over his phone earlier. Under the circumstances, somebody called Moses over the phone on Sunday night after which he stepped out of his home. Police investigation has revealed that Moses was taken a few yards away from the house where the suspects attacked him using knives. Moses ran from there towards his house, but was attacked again by the suspects who fled the spot by the time his father and neighbours rushed towards the scene of attack.
Moses was then taken to Chromepet Government Hospital where he was declared dead on arrival.
The Coimbatore Press Club has strongly condemned the gruesome killing and called it a murder of democracy. Members of the CPC demanded that the murderers should be apprehended and punished severely. They also demanded that an ex-gratia payment should be made by the government to Moses's family immediately and that one of his family members should be provided with a government job. They requested that the TN government should ensure that members of the press are adequately protected.
