Coimbatore: Pollachi-Palladam four-lane road works have commenced and Rs. 15 crore has been allocated by the Government of Tamil Nadu in the first phase to cover a distance of 4.8 km.

Pollachi is an important route from Coimbatore to the southern districts. Pollachi-Coimbatore road has been widened to four lanes and is in use already. Following this, the government is planning to widen the Pollachi-Dindigul, Pollachi-Palakkad and Pollachi-Palladam Roads into four lanes and is taking the initial steps for the same. As part of this, the work of converting Pollachi-Palladam road into four lanes has been started on behalf of Tamil Nadu Highways Department. In the first phase, the stretch between Karapadi Pirivu and Kallipatti Pirivu will be converted into four lanes for a distance of 4.8 km.
Officials said, "The Pollachi-Palladam road widening work started last month. The Government of Tamil Nadu has allocated about Rs. 15 crore in the first phase for a distance of 4.8 km. Accordingly, two two-lane roads with a width of 7.5 m will be constructed and a barrier with a width of 1.5 m will be set in the middle. Work is underway to reduce the height of the Senkuttupalayam branch canal and areas near Puliampatti. The work would be completed in 8 months."
